ORGANIC ESSENTIALS

WHAT DOES ORGANIC REALLY MEAN?

Although the word organic has become a very popular (and therefore somewhat confusing) term, we will use it only in the following strict sense: as describing a carbon-based material of biological origin.  In the context of soil nutrition, we can narrow our focus further to humus – organic material that has been stabilised by micro-organisms – as being the most effective form of organic material.

WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME?

Organic material in soil has clearly measurable positive effects on crucial soil processes, such as:

  • Improving soil structure by the formation of aggregates, thereby also improving gas exchange and soil permeability;
  • dramatically increasing cation exchange capacity and forming chelates – protecting important plant nutrients from leaching, while making them easily available to plants;
  • Retaining up to 20 times its own mass in water, close to plant roots, organic matter also prevents drying and shrinking of soils.

    HOW IS IT APPLIED?

    Agriman supplies unique granular organic products with shape, hardness, density and texture that make it suitable for blending with conventional granular fertilisers and application with conventional equipment. 

    AT AGRIMAN WE FORMULATE AND MARKET A UNIQUE SERIES OF FERTILISED PRODUCTS WHICH RESTS UPON A SPECIFIC GRADE AND QUALITY OF AN ORGANIC COMPONENT WHICH IS OBTAINED AS A BY-PRODUCT OF WASTEWATER TREATMENT.

    This organic component is recycled, dried, disinfected and granulated according to a strict scientifically managed process. It is then enriched with chemical components to create a series of granular, stable, organically based series of plant nutrient mixtures. Our product range offers the farmer the best of both the organic and chemical worlds, with the benefits of organic as well as inorganic plant nutrition within the economic realities of commercial crop production.

    The disadvantages of traditional organic and biological fertilisers have been overcome by Agriman’s concept – these disadvantages include:

    Large quantities of conventional organic fertilisers need to be applied to compensate for their low concentration of macro nutrients

    Inconsistent nutrient concentrations in most organic fertilisers make it impossible to determine application rates.

    WHAT ARE BIOSOLIDS?

    Biosolids are a by-product of water treatment processes and consist almost entirely of dead and decomposed micro-organisms that were used to absorb soluble plant nutrients from waste water.  This material is stabilised and further processed, resulting in a product which is rich in humus and humic substances, as well as plant macro- and micronutrients.  According to professor Kobus van der Walt from North West University faculty of Natural Sciences, biosolids that are treated in this way are “no longer sewage sludge – because the chemical bonds are different – but very good compost.”

      IS IT SAFE?

      Guidelines for the use of biosolids are strictly adhered to, thereby making our products suitable for unrestricted use by law.  These guidelines include comprehensive restrictions on metal, chemical and pathogen concentrations.  In all cases, independent testing shows that our products comply with standards by very wide margins.  Our product is a registered fertiliser under Act no 36 of 1947 : reg. no. B 2337.

      OUR RESULTS ARE OUTSTANDING

      CARBON IS THE ANSWER

      The widespread low organic content of South African soils – levels of less than 1%, roughly 4% below the organic content of natural habitats, occurs. Traditional teamwork practices naturally further impair the degeneration of micro-life in our soil.

      Carbon is an essential source of nutrition for micro-life, which is detrimental and dying with a lack of carbon. This leads to a weakened soil structure, which, among other things, causes food elements to become less accessible to plant growth. Greater amounts of chemical / inorganic fertilizer must therefore be applied to compensate for this weakening plant food availability, in order to try to maintain yield levels.

      Our product provides organic materials that are by definition carbon-based, in moderate amounts in the soil. Micro-life is therefore stimulated and land structure improves progressively. This leads to improved food retention and – very important – improved moisture retention in the soil. The result is that the plant manages much more stress as a result of drought or spillage conditions. The feeding of nutrients is also counteracted – from there the “longer legs” for which Agriman’s products are so well-known.

      HOW WE DO IT

      The Agriman product range provides a complete menu of macro and micro elements in the soil, available for planting. This means that additional macro and micro-elements must only be administered where a crop’s nutritional needs justify additional administration.

      Our range of mixtures compares favorably with conventional chemical fertilizer mixtures in the SA market – which unfortunately can not be said of most other organic based products in the market.

      WE FULLY COMPLY WITH LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:

      Our product range fully complies with the Sludge Classification requirements of the Departments of Health, Environmental Affairs, Water Affairs and Agriculture *, according to which microbiological content, stability and pollution properties in organic products are determined. It also includes the measurement of permitted maximum levels of sg. Heavy metals based on internationally accepted classification methods.

      *And… we granulate!
